As a veteran nail painter I find that putting your hands in cold water straight after painting them for about 5 mins speeds up the process quite considerably.
you should paint them twice about 5 min's apart then when you have given them that second coat you should give them at least 15min,s to harden off properly
A lot of bottles say dries in 60 seconds but the truth is you could wait up to 5 minutes for it to completely dry. If you apply it in thin coats it helps. Even after 5 minutes I can smell some of the polish odour and it takes an hour or more until it goes away and doesn't smudge.

Did you know that your nail varnish will dry faster if you dip your fingers into a glass of water straight after you've applied it? Apparently it's a chemical reaction to do with the drying agents/atoms in the varnish?

I usually don't want my nail polish to get wiped off or rubbed off or something so I usually shake my hands and blow on them for a minute or so. Then I just set them down until I'm certain it's completely dry and they won't ruin. Usually takes me a bit less than five minutes. But the time varies on the kind of nail polish you have, the thickness of the coats you applied, and the number of coats too....... I think color varies too but I'm not too sure about that. And if you want to apply a second coat, it would be best if you were to wait a bit longer than usual for it to dry. Oh and make sure nothing gets stuck to your nail polish because then you would have to start all over again.... And that usually sucks....
